Oxford Dems Hold Annual BBQ

The Annual Oxford County Democrats Summer BBQ and Family Fun Day was held on Sunday, August 27 at the Maine Conservation School attended by a capacity crowd that welcomed Governor John Baldacci, Congressman Michaud, US Senate candidate Jean Hay Bright, and many legislative leaders, local candidates and Democrats. Rep. Bob Duplessie, a member of the Board of the Maine Conservation School, welcomed the group to the facility, and announced that the School would be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in October. The kitchen staff of the School served an excellent lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs, salads, and strawberry shortcake.
Treasurer Mike Broderick announced that the event set a new record for the County Committee for a single event and that the list of hosts for the gathering released in the past few weeks had received a number of additions including Matt Dunlap, David Lamoine, Sam Spencer, Jeff Mills, Hilary Ware, Francis Kieliszek and Meg Mineweaser.
Offering remarks to the group were Congressman Mike Michaud, introduced by Marge Medd, State Senate candidate in District 13, US Senate candidate Jean Hay Bright, introduced by Roy Gedat, House Majority Leader Glenn Cummings introduced by Terry Hayes, Attorney General Steve Rowe introduced by Wayne Gallant, candidate for Sheriff, and Governor John Baldacci, introduced by Senator Bruce Bryant, District 14. Rep. Cummings introduced House candidates Tim Carter, District 91, Reggie Arsenault, District 93 and Marlee Turner, District 97. Mike Broderick introduced State Party Chair Ben Dudley and Vice-chair Marianne Stevens. Tim Carter presented bags of fresh sweet corn to the speakers, and Lynn Duplessie was the winner of a Mystery Raffle, consisting of a selection of campaign buttons and an empty can of Billy beer from the Carter era. Morrill Nason, of Hartford, was the winner of the 50-50 raffle.
In other news, Brownfield selectperson Cynthia Willetts held a candidates reception for Marge Medd, Marlee Turner and Wayne Gallant at her home in Brownfield on Saturday, August 26. Lynn Baker will be holding a candidates reception at her home on Plummer Hill Road in Waterford on Sunday, Sept. 10 with Senator Bruce Bryant, House candidate Roy Gedat, County Treasurer Mary Ann Prue, and Wayne Gallant, Sheriff candidate, attending. Rep. John Patrick will be hosting the annual River Valley Democrats BBQ on Sunday, September 17 in Rumford. Congressman Michaud and Governor Baldacci will be attending along with legislative and county candidates.
