About
the Oxford County Democrats
Chair: Cathy Newell of
Greenwood
About Cathy : A life-long Democrat,
Cathy volunteered on campaigns in New Hampshire
while in high school, and New York, while in college.
Soon after moving to Maine, she became active
in the Bethel Democratic Committee and in the
Oxford County Committee. She managed the campaigns
of Rep. Emily Saunders in the 1970?s and of Jeff
Mills for both the House and Senate in the 1980?s
and early 1990?s. Cathy is retired from MSAD 44
where she was the Director of Adult Education
for more than 20 years. She currently is the Executive
Director of the Maine Adult Education Association.
She has chaired the County Committee since 2001.
Vice-Chair: Roy Gedat
of Norway
Roy was the Executive Director
of the Child Health Center in Norway for 18 years
until resigning in 2004 to run for the Maine House
of Representatives. Roy ran a vigorous campaign,
winning the towns of Norway, West Paris and Greenwood,
and losing by only 90 votes to an incumbent. Roy
is now employed as Executive Director for a non-profit
representing direct care providers, and is based
in Norway, where he looks forward to continuing
his volunteer activities with town organizations
including the Historical Society and the Downtown
Redevelopment Committee as well as the Oxford
County Democrats. Roy represents Oxford County
on the Democratic State Committee, and as an alternate
to the Caucus of County Chairs.
Treasurer: Mike Broderick
of Bethel
Mike is active in community affairs
in Bethel, serving on the Bethel Water District
and a variety of recreation committees, and is
a member of the Parish Council of Our Lady of
the Snows church. Mike works for the American
Skiing Company as a business manager, and is also
active in various
professional associations. He loves to ski, and
that is what drew Mike and his wife Eileen, a
librarian in MSAD 43, to the area, where they
have raised their 2 sons. Mike and Eileen met
as volunteers for John Kerry in his first campaign
for Congress and both attended the 2004 Democratic
Convention,
where Mike was an alternate, and frequently seated
in prime territory right behind the podium! Mike
has been a member of the Democratic State Committee
for several years, and served on the Platform
Committee in 2004.
